Pilates is an exercise system created by Joseph Pilates. Classical Pilates, when practiced and applied correctly, will increase strength, mobility, postural improvements and reduction in aches and pains.
Our link to lineage and history
There are a number of individuals that worked directly with Joseph Pilates himself. These original students went on in their careers to train their own students in the system of Contrology (Classical Pilates); they are referred to as the Pilates Elders.
Contrology was the name Joseph Pilates gave the his original system which was later commonly referred to as “Pilates” as time went on. At Aura Pilates we pride ourselves on carrying the Original Method (Contrology) forward into the future with care to uphold the values and original intent of the Work.
Each Pilates Elder has a slightly different style. At Aura Pilates we predominantly follow the teaching and directives of Pilates Elder, Jay Grimes.
Aura Pilates is one of only 12 studios in Australasia to operate and teach in this way.
Pilates (Contrology) is its very own very specific exercise discipline such as Karate or Kung Fu. It is much bigger and richer than what a lot of people are experiencing when they do “Pilates”. Pilates is a legally generic term that can describe almost any exercise. Due to the saturation of Contemporary and “Fitness” Pilates across Australia unfortunately little is known of the true work and the benefits it brings and also how to apply the exercises for the individual. That is why Aura is such a unique and true Pilates Studio.
Contrology is a system that requires discipline and consistent practice in order to achieve mastery over a number of years.
